My work is mainly driven by spontaneity and the self-reflective process of making art. Other words to describe my practice are expressiveness and mystery. I like painting that holds back its potential for gesture, but I also like big gestures. I like the quietness and rawness of drawing.
My choice of medium changes frequently, as I enjoy presenting work that differs from what I have shown before. A similar excitement comes from organizing exhibitions, where I invite others to develop their own work around a word or theme I propose. There is something about the simplicity or banality of this situation that brings me joy, ease, and a sense of freedom. Over time, it has become an important part of my artistic practice. It is also driven by a desire for community and the hope of creating a positive feeling within the art world, beyond individual self-expression.
I also use these exhibitions as an opportunity to present my own work, creating something new within the circumstances I have set in motion. The work I develop in the studio, on the other hand, is sometimes a more direct reflection of how I feel when working alone.
